'A Night In Baton
Rouge'

While recording 'Green Voodoo' in Austin during the autumn of 2001
I did some dates with Merel Bregante and Sarah Pierce.
One of these shows was in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. It was held in the
beautiful old building which houses Johnny Palazotto's Main Street Studio,
home to his 'Club Louisiane' record label . The room has wonderful natural
acoustics and we recorded it using a 16 track analogue machine.
The resultant album 'A Night In Baton Rouge' will be released by Little
Bear Records before the end of 2004.It's a solo recording - just me
and my Guild 12 string acoustic guitar - balancing some of my older
songs such as 'Irish Rockabilly Blues' with songs like 'Crossing Rivers'
which have not been recorded before. It also includes my versions of
Johnny Cash's 'Big River' and the traditional ballad 'Banks of the Ponchartrain'.
The cover art uses photographs that I took travelling through Louisiana
and in Baton Rouge. My long time Austin friend Alyce McCullough Guynn
has graciously let me use a poem of hers called 'Pumpkin and Cinnamon
on Parade'.
Merel Bregante and I did the final edits and put the finishing touches
to it when I was in Austin in June for the American release of 'Green
Voodoo'.
